Playing About (OPEN)

Wolfkit raced out of the nursery because she trying to find a place to hide. She leapt up a part of rock and darted into a hole that was not very visible but still large enough for her to fit in. She watched as the Clan slowly became more active as it sent out patrols and more cats awoke. Wolfkit watched as everyone did their job. She especially watched the apprentices, as she was going to be one soon.

Wolfkit had already noticed Finchkit. There was one small problem though. She was smaller than Finchkit. Not a lot smaller but the hole could just barely fit her inside it let alone two kits. She was watching a an apprentice who had fallen into a mossball covered in mouse bile which was now all over his fur (I made one up cause I don't think we have any just yet). If Finchkit walked infront of her and growled it would be enough to startle her though. She likes the little spot and will be sad when she can't fit in it anymore. If she grows any bigger anytime soon she won't be able to fit at all.

The medicine cat's den visibly rustled, a layer of frost crackling and falling to the ground like dancing, glittering dew-drops in the morning sun. From the frosted lichen emerged a pure white head, following a lithe white body protected with thick silky fur. The pretty and slim white shecat turned her ivy-colored eyes upon the sky. The morning left a pale blue sky swirled with flame-like clouds that were touched by the rising sun's rays in which what gave them their hue.
The warm colors reflected on her cool green eyes, glittering with a slight worry as she thought about their herb shortage. Within the oak and willow trees, the frost had set in earlier, and medicine cat had been restlessly scrambling to gather as many of her precious resources as possible. 
Shywhisper's eyes were slightly more dull, fur unkept, and she even seemed more thin than she had been half a moon ago.
She tried hide her worry, but the irritable and worried twitching in her white plumed tail was apparent as she padded into the clearing.

Thinking he was finally close enough Finchkit pounced where Wolfkit would be hiding, "boo!" He yowled out, hoping to scare her. He wasn't too sure that he was successful in his effort to scare her, but nonetheless he got a good chuckle out of it. The young tom looked away from Wolfkit briefly to see Shywhisper, the medicine cat emerge out of her den. To the young tomkit she looked worried and preoccupied with something, what Finchkit didn't know. What could possibly worry her? All she did was heal cats and share tongue's with StarClan. Was there more to her daily life than he would ever know? Perhaps, but he would leave her to worry about it, it wasn't like it was his business or his concern. Shrugging his shoulders Finchkit looked towards Wolfkit, "so when is your apprentice ceremony?" He asked her before giving her a grin.

Wolfkit was a little startled, but she didn't let it show. When she noticed Finchkit look out over the camp she did to, noticing Shywhisper. She knew a bit more about the life of a Medicine Cat so she knew it wasn't just worry. Wolfkit almost missed the question asked because of her trying to figure out what is wrong. "It's in a few days" She mewed a small smile showing. She turned and looked up at the sky. "It would be a nice day if it wasn't cold..." She murmured, barely audible.

"You know in a few moons you won't be able to fit in there," the tom stared at Wolfkit, trying to comprehend how she got between the small crevice in the rocks. He was a moon younger than Wolfkit and yet he was larger then her. Was it his Maine coon heritage? Or was Wolfkit small for her age? Finchkit couldn't see himself figuring out how she got in any time soon so he instead pushed it on the back burner in his mind and returned his attention to the present. Are you going to become Shywhisper's apprentice then? The clan has been murmuring about it, but I thought I would ask you since your the one that would become the apprentice." Finchkit asked. He wasn't sure if the adults were being serious about Wolfkit becoming Shywhisper's apprentice and learn the ways of the medicine cat and StarClan themselves. In a way it would be interesting to be able to actually talk to StarClan, however Finchkit doubted it was as exciting as being a warrior. "Hi Shywhisper! Anything wrong?" Finchkit asked out of the blue. He gave Wolfkit a sly wink before bounding towards the white colored she-cat, waving his tail behind him to let Wolfkit know to follow him. He would get answers one way or another, Finchkit himself was curious as to who would mentor him when he becomes an apprentice. But he pushed that thought aside and focused on his current goal.

Wolfkit bounded after the larger kit. She skidded to a stop next to Finchkit, kicking up a small bit of dust. She has yet to forget what transpired when she was two moons old. "Hi Shywhisper" She mewed a bit after Finchkit. And how she fit in the crevice, well she couldn't work that out herself. She playfully glared at Finchkit, already knowing what he was trying to achieve.

Shywhisper had been adjusting a bundle of herbs she had set out to dry near the center of the clearing. She counted the coltsfoot, ears flicking slightly. Then, she counted her horsetail, her back twitching with slight irritability as she frowned. Both of those herbs were low, if they had a border skirmish, she'd have to use golden rod for wounds instead. She knew it wasn't as affective, but what choice did she have? Her only clumps of said herbs were at Four Stones, protected by a patch of rocks from the frost that had killed all the rest. She momentarily did not notice the kits bounding over to her.
"Oh, why hello" she purred her signature warm greeting, waving her plumed tail at the young ones.
Her eyes twinkled in delight as she saw Wolfkit, glancing to her herbs with excitement before Honeybadger came to defend her and her work.
"Oh, thank you, Honeybadger, but I don't mind" she chirped, curling her tail as she turned towards the kits once more.
"Now, can you two tell me, what is this herb called?" Shywhisper pawed the dried yellow flowers of Coltsfoot and looked to the kits with interest, though more importantly, her gaze twinkled at Wolfkit.

Wolfkit eyed the coltsfoot, not recognising it at first. She stepped forwards looking at the flowers closely wracking her brain to see if she knew it. Finally she concluded on an answer though it took a few moments. As she was not sure it came out as more of a question than an actual word. "Coltsfoot?" Wolfkit mewed, looking up at Shywhisper. She then stepped back a little realising she had moved further forwards then she had originally intended. She turned her head to Finchkit, waiting for his answer.

The sound of a different voice reached his ears and Finchkit looked to the wizened old cat, Honeybadger. He gave the elder a respectful nod and small smile until she started scolding Wolfkit and him. What had he done wrong? He was only trying to help and figure something out. But he didn't question her, she was an elder for a reason. Not many cats really survive that long, and Finchkit himself hoped to survive that long when he grew up too. "morning Honesybadger," the young tom kit said respectively before Shywhisper asked a question. The tabby brown tom turned around and stared at the herb of sorts. Was he supposed to know this as a warrior? How was he supposed to know about it when he's never seen it or left camp to actually see it. Finchkit creeped forward before opening his mouth and letting his scent glands on the roof of his mouth taste the air. It had a strong bitter taste and it made the young kit sneeze. Trying to dispell the retched smell. Not wanting to smell it again the kit poked it will his front right paw, trying to gouge what it felt like. If scent failed him perhaps touch won't? Finchkit poked the yellow head of the flower. It was soft, but that didn't help. He doubted he would be able to taste it and he highly doubted that it would taste even good. Looking up he watched Wolfkit guess before looking to him. Cause it was better to say what Wolfkit said, "I don't know this plant, but I guess it's coltsfoot." The young kit said, shrugging for emphasis on his cluelessness.

A golden-pelted spotted tom slunk from the warrior den, and casted his golden gaze around the camp. The feline was Leopardclaw, deputy of OwlClan. He sat outside the den, sitting up tall and proud. He watched the kits' antics, his long tail wrapped neatly around his paws. For some, he could seem rather intimidating due to his height, as he was somewhat lanky, being a Savannah cat mix. However, despite how aggressive and fierce he was, the feline was as gentle as possible towards kits, elders, and medicine cats. He knew just how important they were; the kits were the clans future, and the elders served the clan and lasted long enough to retire. Lastly, medicine cats were valuable and sacred - especially Shywhisper, who was undoubtedly the most compassionate feline in the clans. The feline then padded forward to the group of felines. Flicking his ears, he glanced at the medicine cat and purred, "It appears we have some destined medicine cats, hmm?" He looked back at Wolfkit as he said this - she seemed to have correctly identified the herb. He could tell that she had potential.

Shywhisper waited for the kits to complete fidgeting with the herb, purring warmly when Wolfkit answered correctly. It had to be a sign, the thought prodded her mind and made her heart soar. Maybe the kit recognized it from when she gave it to one of the other kit's, maybe, but she was sure it was deeper. Her trust in Starclan was strong, and she was sure this was Starclan urging her onwards about making Wolfkit her apprentice.
"Very good, you two!" She beamed, patricularly at Wolfkit.
"Can you tell me what it's used for? I use it for many different things" she chirped, before looking up at the Deputy. She waved her tail in greeting, nodding to approve his thoughts when he showed keenness in Wolfkit being more than a Warrior.

Wolfkit dipped her head to the deputy as a sign of respect, before turning back to Shywhisper. Again she wracked her brain searching for the answer. As her memory was blurry from when Shywhisper did use it in the nursery, she decided to geuss. "Is it used for shortness of breath?" She mewed in a tone that showed she was quite unsure. Wolfkit once again waited for Finchkit's answer. She was hoping she hadn't mixed it up with golden rod or marigold as they were all similarly coloured. She had no clue how she knew those herbs, but brushed it off as watching other cats from her perch and accidentally memorising them.

Well this wasn't how Finchkit was expecting it how their conversation would go. He didn't come here to talk about herbs, he came here to ask a question and to see if everything was alright with Shywhisper. It seemed his concern was completely disregarded, unimportant. The young toms ears flattened to his scull as he stared hotly at the coltsfoot. How in StarClan was Finchkit supposed to know the uses of the herb? He didn't know what it was called in the beginning so why would he know what it's uses were for? He looked up at the sound of a new voice and saw it was LeopardClaw, the clans deputy. He bowed his head in respect before turning his attention back to the herb. "I didn't know the herbs name before so why would I know it's uses?" the tom kit asked, he made his ton as polite as possible as he didn't want the older cats feel like he was being rude and disrespectful. That wasn't his intention at all.
